GETTING MY DANCE ON
It’s now 1.49am on the rocket clock. I’m in bed at home and for the past 30min, I have spent writing some philosophical backtrack into the night, referencing the chorus from the arty local band at Ric’s as a metaphor for life.
WHO’S UP FOR IT??!
We have just submitted a tender application to ‘academise’ the research we have done through the project. Hopefully this should give us some dollars to put two people through a 3 month Hello Sunday Morning program. Which is filth et gnarly. So, I’m putting it out there… Who’s keen?? We are looking for.. 1 boy
PURPOSE IN THE EVERYDAYNESS
I’m lying in my bed on a Wednesday morning, my body seems to be paralysed by the day’s work ahead. My eyes wander the ancient white plaster ceiling looking for detail in the marks and cracks it has accumulated over the years. This morning I am having a conversation between my mind and the conspicuous
YOUNG CARE – THE UPPER MIDDLE ECHELON
Standing in the crowd at the Youngcare cocktail event @ Zuri. They present their cause so incredibly poignantly. They have really empowered the upper middle echelons of Brisbane to really contribute to something. Purpose transferance… The truth is, most people are here because their friends bought them a ticket (me) or to network. I guess
Matching the energy
My saturday night at an 80’s party. Local bowls club. Loose people. I try and match their energy to the point that they forget I’m not drinking. When they offer me a tequilla, I know I’m doing good.
5 WAYS TO CHANGE A PERSON’S DYSFUNCTIONAL BEHAVIOUR
If there was one core question that the Hello Sunday Morning project is an attempt to try and answer, I believe that question would be ‘how do we change the behaviour of those around us?’ More specifically, how do we change a normalised, very attractive behaviour like binge drinking? This post highlights what I believe
5 BILLION SPLIT SCREENS
You know how in movies they do that split screen thing where you see two characters playing out their individual lives, blissfully unaware of the other person in the screen next to them. Then as the music reaches a crescendo and the sequence ends, they meet and the two screens merge into one? I like
KNOCKING THE TOP OFF – ALCOHOL AND EMOTIONS
This post explores the final component to the psychology that drives binge drinking – Emotional Intelligence. Emotional Intelligence (in my view) is the ability to manage our emotions and understand the emotions and feelings of others. I would like to explore how in western society, we largely put alcohol in charge to do this for
“BINGE TO BRISBANE”
That was the *clever* title of our unsent press release for the HSM team we entered into the Bridge to Brisbane race. Adam (FRESH MD) came up with it and was so proud of himself that I wanted to slot it in somewhere. Ta da. This is a short post, I just wanted to make
ARE YOU A SHARK OR A JELLYFISH?
Continuing on with this series of posts on the drivers behind our binge drinking culture, I want to now explore the psychological driver of ‘purpose’. What does it mean to have purpose? How does a young person lose it? how it is found? and how does a lack of it translate into dysfunctional drinking behaviour. A person
